Every wedding tells a story, and some of the most meaningful chapters are hidden in the details. The small choices—personal objects, favorite books, and thoughtful touches—often say the most about a couple and what they love. At this wedding at Quail Hollow Ranch in Santa Cruz, the bride’s love of books inspired a beautiful setting for wedding detail photography. Surrounded by towering bookshelves and a rolling library ladder, we were able to turn the space itself into part of the story.

While she got ready, my second shooter, Kylie, and I started working on the detail photos. We carefully placed the bride’s earrings and rings on the spines of beautifully worn books, letting the textures and colors create a timeless, literary feel. For the dress and shoes, we used the rolling library ladder and tall bookshelves to create a dramatic composition. Hanging the dress high among the shelves and balancing the shoes on the ladder allowed the space itself to become part of the visual story.

Beginning the day with these detail shots also serves a second purpose: it helps my couples get comfortable with my camera before the more intimate getting-ready photos begin. This allows for a more relaxed and natural experience, leading to more genuine and heartfelt images. If you’re a "book girl" planning your own wedding, I hope this inspires you to find creative ways to include your passions. Your unique interests are what make your love story special, and it's my goal as your photographer to capture them beautifully. Thoughtful wedding detail photography like this helps weave a couple’s personality throughout the entire gallery, from the smallest objects to the biggest moments.
